Helping a New Lab Get Off the Ground

The Northeastern Lab for Inclusive Entrepreneurship seeks to assist women-and-minority-owned small businesses, particularly in the Portland-Boston-Providence corridors; in recovering from the COVID-19 damages and scaling up for the future.

The lab is faculty-led and provides in-depth technical and managerial assistance. It offers fellowships for small business owners to take micro-credential courses that address obstacles to winning business, plus position the firms for growth.

Overview

Event campaign strategy. The Lab held a symposium in Spring 2022 on the obstacles women-and-minority-owned small businesses face and ways to increase supplier diversity. The Husky Communications team was charged with raising awareness about the symposium to help spur interest in the event. We used PR, social media, pay-per-click, marketing automation, and email marketing to engage diverse small business owners nationally, resulting in three times the expected attendance.

Students’ Testimonials

It was a slow but very rewarding process, and our professors were very supportive along the way. We had our fair share of struggles and made some mistakes during the project, but we are very satisfied with the results.

I enjoyed working for the Lab as it brought together all small, minority and women owned business of the Boston, Portland, and Maine corridors. The best part about the Lab is that it bridges the gap between the suppliers and the university that offer such wholistic solutions. Working for their symposium in real time gave us a real time client and as an agency we ensured we reached out to all the SMWOB owners via every marketing platform possible.”
